Robert Franklin

 Foley(US Army)

We're honoring

 Robert Franklin Foley,

 who earned the

 *Medal of Honor* 

for his actions in 

Vietnam on November 5, 

1966, 

near Quan Dau Tieng. 

As a captain leading 

Company A, his unit was

 sent to help extract

 another company

 trapped by enemy forces. Moving through thick

 jungle, they met heavy
resistance from hidden

positions, stopping their

advance.

Foley saw a wounded

soldier exposed to fire.

 He crawled out
under bullets to reach 

the man and dragged

 him back to safety.

 He then shifted his 

company to flank the 

enemy, personally
taking out three strong

 positions and killing 

several soldiers.
As the fight continued,

 Foley moved among

 his men, encouraging

 them and directing fire

 while exposing himself 

to danger. When ordered

 to pull back, he stayed

 to make sure all dead
and wounded were 

evacuated, even after

 being hit himself.
He refused treatment

 and kept leading, 

destroying more enemy 

spots until the goals

 were met.
His efforts helped save

 the trapped unit and

 many lives. 

After Vietnam, Foley

 continued his Army 

career, rising to
lieutenant general.

 He served in key roles

 like Commandant of 

Cadets at West Point 

and commander of

 the Fifth Army,
retiring in 2000 after

 37 years of service.

베트남전 이후, 폴리는

 육군 중장으로 진급하며

 군 생활을 이어갔습니다. 

그는 웨스트포인트 생도대장, 

미 5군 사령관 등 주요

 직책을 역임했으며, 

37년간의 복무를 마치고 

2000년에 전역했습니다.
